Pitt Jumps Into Mix for Elite 2026 5-Star Offensive Tackle

Pitt hasn’t landed a five-star recruit in over a decade, not since offensive lineman Dorian Johnson in the class of 2013, but that hasn’t stopped the Panthers from building bonds with top recruits.

Pitt has built its recent success off the back of its recruiting efforts. But it’s been the under-the-radar recruiting that led to an ACC title and the most successful two-season stretch in decades. But, of course, the Panthers are still gunning for the top prospects in the class.

One of the most recent offers was extended to Immanuel Iheanacho.

Iheanacho — a 6-foot-7, 335-pound five-star offensive tackle from Georgetown Preparatory School in Rockville, Md. — picked up an offer from the Pitt coaching staff Friday afternoon.

He added Pitt to a list of offers that already includes Alabama, Auburn, Boston College, Florida, Georgia, Howard, Marshall, Maryland, Miami, Ole Miss, Penn State, Syracuse, Temple, Texas, Texas A&M and Virginia Tech.

It’s obviously still incredibly early in the process for not just the Pitt-Iheanacho bond but Iheanacho’s recruiting process as a whole. He holds offers from some of the best programs in the country as he enters the summer before his junior season.

If Pitt is to progress the relationship, with offensive coordinator Kade Bell and offensive line coach Jeremy Darveau serving as the lead recruiters, it will need to land Iheanacho on campus for a visit.

Iheanacho is a big, mauling tackle, playing on the left side of the line, who used his blend size and speed to completely overwhelm opposing defensive linemen during his sophomore season at Georgetown Prep. He’s a player who should only get better with more experience.

247Sports rates Iheanacho as the third-ranked recruit in the class (top-ranked offensive tackle and recruit from Maryland), and On3 Sports has given him the same ranking in the class.

Rivals is much lower on Iheanacho, rating him as the 41st-ranked offensive tackle and fourth-ranked recruit from Maryland.

The class of 2026 is still quite a ways away, but it’s clear that Iheanacho will be one of the top recruits in the class. Pitt will have its work cut out if it wants to seriously work its way into the mix for Iheanacho’s services over the next two years.
