Pitt’s William Jeffress ‘Will Probably Miss The Year’

Published

on

Pitt forward William Jeffress will “probably miss the year,” according to Pitt men’s basketball head coach Jeff Capel. Jeffress has been out all season battling a toe injury that he suffered in September. At the time, it was announced to be a foot injury and that he’d be back in six weeks which would’ve set him up for a late October return.

The injury timeline has been weird for Jeffress, who was previously expected to be available for the season opener against UT Martin on November 7th. Jeffress missed that game, along with each game this season. Capel said in his press conference following the team’s win over Alabama State that they tested Jeffress toe in practice and determined that he will likely need surgery.

It’s worth noting that while Capel said Jeffress will “probably miss the year” that is not a definite decision at this moment.

In 31 games (16 starts) last season, Jeffress averaged 3.3 points and 3.3 rebounds in 20 minutes per game. It was his sophomore year for Pitt, and if he were to miss the rest of the season, he’d likely receive a medical red shirt. Since he was a freshman in 2020, he was given an extra year already. That means, he will be eligible to play for three more seasons, assuming he is done for the year, and he receives a red shirt.

The loss of Jeffress is not the only injury that Pitt has been battling with this season as star power forward John Hugley has only appeared in two games this year due to a knee injury of his own and guard Jamarius Burton missed today’s game against Alabama State with knee inflammation.

Pitt’s next game will be against Farleigh Dickinson on Tuesday, November 22 at 8:30 p.m. They start conference play at NC State on December 2nd at 7:00 p.m. Both games will be broadcasted on the ACC Network.

William Jefferies was a 4 star recruit. While it takes more time for some recruits than others, that should indicate that he has legitimate talent. Since improvement comes with experience and comfort, I expect to see the real difference this year and going forward. Sorry if you will miss the comedy of his jumpers, but I’m sure it’s not as funny as watching you do it.

Rob Radich, you are immature and probably never played a minute in your life. Try moving out of your mother’s basement and do something with your life rather than trash talk about kids.

A few points- I have played, certainly not at a D1 level, but more than a minute. So I suppose you have never said anything critical of an athlete, public figure etc? Doubtful. Regarding the old “ mother’s basement, try to be a little original, probably a stretch. And I actually live in a 5 bedroom 4000 SF Arts and crafts style home on two acres. Regarding “doing something with my life”, well I retired asa SVP from Banking and now run a 501 c 3. So there’s that.
