National Signing Day Show: How Much Does Recruiting Matter to Pitt?

Published

on

As part of the Sports Now Network’s National Signing Day show, Mike Asti and Mike Vukovcan were joined PSN’s Karl Ludwig to recap the recruiting season to date for Pitt. They also touch on if Pitt’s offseason can truly be judged just off recruiting because of the work they are doing in the Transfer Portal?

The Blue-Chip Ratio While recruiting rankings can sometimes be incorrect for an individual player, 99% of the time (2022 Texas A&M being the other 1%) team success in recruiting will make a difference on the field. Recruiting classes are often measured by the blue-chip recruit ratio, which is the percentage of the class that is made up by 4 and 5-star recruits. Anything over 60% is considering really good, 75% or more is elite and 90% and up is Alabama and Georgia. Here are some current blue-chip ratios in the 2023 cycle: Alabama- 96% Ohio State- 95% Florida- 90% Georgia- 85%… Read more »

Of the oft mentioned 10 wins, which game would you consider to be their signature win…you know, the one game that announced to the college football world that PSU is a real force to be reckoned with (don’t bother checking the Michigan or OSU games).
I would say that it was their four-point come from behind victory against the power-house Boilermakers from the football factory of West Lafayette, IN.
Point being, minus OSU and Mich, the B10 is basically the ACC that you so often like to ridicule…so excuse me if I’m not terribly impresses with their ten-win season.

Syracuse beat Purdue. Pitt pounded Syracuse. Your point is valid. The PSU troll is a tool bag with delusions of grandeur.

This year I’d say going down to SEC country and mauling Auburn. You can only play who is on your schedule (we didn’t lose to Western Michigan)
BigTen is far superior to acc in football. acc will be gone in a few years as they have an awful TV deal and Clemson, FSU and Miami won’t stay long as is.
pitt got lucky with a down acc last year. FSU, Miami and Clemson, along with UNC, etc. will be up and pitt will be down with Georgia Tech soon (who blasted them)

Would that be the same 5-8 Auburn team that won a total of two power five contests…a team so terrible that their head coach was fired mid-season…still not impressed.

The Rose bowl is an exhibition game like the Sun Bowl. Unless you are in the final four it does not matter

You still can’t beat your “unrivaled” Ohio State and Michigan on a sometimes basis… #truthhurts

Let’s pretend that never happened like PSU does… You casually invite fascists to speak at your school and sexual assaults on campus are alarmingly high, but please keep telling us how great it is there. Oh yeah, you’re in the middle of a cow field.

The lack of concern for the safety children is more concerning.

Your ability to dismiss that very long lasting crime scene otherwise known as our states flagship university is beyond alarming. How many young lives were ruined there? A 10 year banishment of PSU football was my wish. That was sick. Joe knew. Joe fostered that environment. While PITT keeps churning doctors and lawyers. Feliz Navidad.

Because they are not elite and very good teams beat them. The Nitters have delusions of grandeur.

Penn State’s reputation and overall image was soiled by the Jerry Sandusky scandal. The national view of Franklin is that of a a rude nincompoop. The campus itself is referred to as Unhappy Valley. Yes, PSU surpassed Miami as the least liked college football program in the country.

There is a PS Sports Now that we don’t read in Pittsburgh. Lay your claim there.

3- 11 win seasons and a 9 and 10 win season in the last 5 years. We are good…pitt on the other hand should be looking as you’ve hit the ceiling with duzz and cig is a laughingstock which is why 20k fans show up

It’s all for nothing. College football is about the pageantry and the tradition, not playing for a new contract or getting upset about what you’re being paid and leaving for the next highest bidder.
