Pitt wasn’t able to land Jaremiah Anglin Jr. during his initial recruiting process, but the coaching staff didn’t miss when afforded another opportunity.
Anglin — a 6-foot-1, 185-pound redshirt freshman defensive back from Kentucky — announced his commitment to Pitt Sunday afternoon, just a few days after he entered the transfer portal. He will have four seasons of eligibility remaining in Pittsburgh.

Anglin initially committed to Kentucky in August of 2022 over a list of finalists that included Alabama, Florida State, Jackson State, Penn State, Pitt, UCF and Tennessee.
Pitt hosted Anglin on an official visit the summer before his commitment.
Anglin didn’t see any action during his redshirt season at Kentucky, but he isn’t far removed from a standout senior season at Lake Wales in which he recorded 19 receptions for 293 yards and three touchdowns and racked up 62 tackles (46 solo), three tackles for loss, eight interceptions, 21 pass breakups, five forced fumbles and a recovery.
He missed the entire 2023 season due to an ACL tear in summer camp last year, but he returned this spring for Kentucky and even picked off a pass (a pick-six) in the Cats’ spring game.
Pitt has a glut of safeties currently on the roster, which includes Javon McIntyre, Donovan McMillon and P.J. O’Brien Jr. in prominent roles and Cruce Brookins and Jesse Anderson fighting for playing time as second-year freshmen.
Anglin is listed as a safety, but the Pitt coaching staff will look into positional flexibility and see if Anglin could bump outside. Regardless, it’s a much-needed jolt of legitimate starting potential on the backend of the defense. He should work immediately in with the cornerbacks this summer and into fall camp.
Anglin is the first transfer to arrive at Pitt this spring, following a mass of exits that included defensive end Dayon Hayes (Colorado), linebacker Solomon DeShields (Texas A&M), quarterback Christian Veilleux, defensive end Antonio Camon, wide receiver Izzy Polk and tight end Cole Mitchell.
I can’t see this guy getting on the field.
He will be here for one year and will become another malcontent and leave.
Ok
What gives you that impression? I was thinking he might have a trajectory similar to MJ Devonshire.
Good pickup.
This is really a big get! This kid has great closing speed, takes perfect angles and a sure tackler. Anxious to see him is Duzz “D”.
I dont understand article. It says there a glut of safetys, and that he ‘might’ be able to work outside and that the team needs DBs. How do we have a glut, people fighting for playing time, and need more?
Chris Peak said they’re bringing him in as a CB. Not safety.
This appears to me to be an excellent transfer portal addition. Look at the list of programs that recruited him coming out of high school. He was offered a scholarship from schools like Alabama and Oklahoma. We never win a recruiting battle with these programs. We out recruit the lower tier power four schools like Duke and Indiana. We out recruit the top level lower level schools like Liberty. We then rely on coaching and development for these kids to become contributors. All I can say about getting this young man with four years of eligibility is better late than… Read more »
Kids are offered by the schools you name all the time. Was he actually a take actually any of those schools coming out of high school is the question. I know for sure he was not a take at PSU coming out of high school.
I am not sure what you mean by “a take.” It was reported on February 26, 2022 by Brandon Walker on Nittany Sports Now that “ Jaremiah “Grady Judd” Anglin Jr., a 2023 three-star recruit out of Lake Wales High School in Lake Wales, FL has received an offer from Penn State.” Are you suggesting by the phrase “a take” that if he accepted this offer Penn State would have reconsidered and rescinded the offer. My point is was offered by some big name programs. It is great to see him coming to Pitt
