Pitt Lands Commitment From 2024 4-Star WR DayDay Farmer

Published

on

The Pitt football program received a big Christmas present in the form of a commitment from an elite recruit.

2024 four-star wide receiver DayDay Farmer announced on Christmas Day that he’s verbally committed to Pat Narduzzi and Pitt. Farmer (6-foot, 170 pounds) attends Cocoa High School in Cocoa, Florida.

Farmer is a consensus four-star recruit and ranked as a top recruit by both Rivals.com and 247Sports.com. Rivals ranks Farmer as the No. 156 overall junior, while 247Sports ranks him as No. 110. 247Sports also ranks Farmer was the No. 23 wide receiver in the Class of 2024.

Before deciding on the Panthers, Farmer also received offers from programs such as Arizona State, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Iowa State, Miami, Michigan State, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Penn State, Purdue, South Florida, Central Florida, Virginia and West Virginia. In the end, Farmer tells PSN that his final three were Pitt, Penn State and West Virginia.

Farmer received his offer from Tim Salem and Pitt back on June 17, 2021, and credit Tiquan Underwood for being the primary contact with him since he arrived at Pitt last season.

Pittsburgh Sports Now spoke with Farmer this morning and he brought up his relationship with Underwood, along with the two visits he made to Pittsburgh in July and for the West Virginia game as reasons for being sold on giving an early commitment to Pitt.

“When I went on a visit up there, they showed me all the wide receivers they’ve had and how they’ve been able to produce in all kinds of weather, including the cold,” said Farmer. “I told my coach that weather doesn’t matter on where I go, just as long as you perform. Also, Coach Wood just kept things real with me since day one. In the end, I wanted to lock up a spot especially with the transfer portal because the portal is getting crazy right now. I wanted to lock my spot in with Pitt. I called and told Coach Underwood about my decision first and he was going crazy on the phone. It was so crazy.

“When I came up to visit Pitt earlier this year, it really surprised me. I thought Pittsburgh was going to be way colder than it was. It wasn’t that cold, so I said I could actually play in this type of weather. The other thing that I remember was Pitt’s crowd. It was packed and they were so loud, and I said to myself that this could be the spot for me.”

Underwood has recruited elite recruits from all across the country and came close to landing five-star wideout Hykeem Williams this year, but his hard work, coaching ability and people skills have helped land his biggest recruit since arriving at Pitt.

“I’ve learned that if you don’t have a good relationship with a coach, then it’s not going to be a good fit for you and the school that you want to go to,” said Farmer. “Coach Underwood, I have a real good relationship with him. He keeps it real with me and I keep it real with him.”

If there’s one word to describe Farmer, it’s explosive, and he believes he’s a matchup nightmare for opposing defensive backs.

“My explosiveness is elite, but my hands are really good, as well as my route running. It’s really a combination of it all. If you play off of me, I’ll run free, if you try and play up on me, I’ll run by you. You can’t touch me. Either way, it’s a lose lose for the defensive back.”

Signing Day 2024 is a year away and Farmer expects other teams to come after him, but he tells PSN that he’s ready for it. It doesn’t matter because he’s sold on Pitt.

“My decision was based on wanting to lock in a spot now with Pitt and with everything that’s going on with the transfer portal,” said Farmer. “I believe my recruiting is going to get a lot more crazy with the offers. Teams are going to see my film and probably offer me. That won’t matter to me, but I’m prepared for it to happen.”

Farmer becomes the second member of Pitt’s Class of 2024, joining fellow four-star defensive tackle Jahsear Whittington.

This is great and all. But let’s not get too excited until the kid actually shows up on campus.

Facts. They should just scrap the early commitment period, means absolutely nothing until signing day.

I agree with Burton Tee.
Here is what the direct quote, “I wanted to lock up a spot especially with the transfer portal because the portal is getting crazy right now. I wanted to lock my spot in with Pitt. “
Does anybody believe that he is sold on playing at Pitt, or does it sound like he is using Pitt until an offer from a warm weather school materializes?

Ahhh, Miami is a pretty warm weather school and he passed.

Lol Pitts stadium was packed and their crowd was loud. Your final 3 were PSU, WVU, and Pitt. There’s no way crowd size/noise/attendance was a big factor, you don’t have to lie. NIL money was probably good.

He was at the WVU game with 70 thousand people there. That crowd was louder than a Steeler game that night.

Pitt’s (notice where the apostrophe goes) stadium was packed and the crowd was loud. He also didn’t say crowd size was a big factor, he said with the crowd that night he could see himself being a part of Pitt. Why would he want to play at WVU, a team that hasn’t had a winning record in years? Or at psu, who hasn’t had a decent qb or wr in the NFL in forever?

… Jahan Dotson, Chris Godwin, Allen Robinson? I’m a Pitt fan till I die, but let’s remove the bias here.

Add all 5 together and they are almost as good as Larry Fitzgerald.

oh Ed, what does that have to do with the original question? H2Palko just wanted to be fair (you should try to take off the blinders once in a while). Fitzgerald was awesome buy you can’t deny the long NFL careers of the above. When someone is brought up you go right to Marino, Dorsett, Donald or Fitzgerald. All HOF and unicorns

Why does a PSU fan troll Pitt athletic sites may be a better question?
Why is PSU even brought up here? That is right…..because you bring it up. Merry Christmas Mr. Theologian.

The on campus stadium ex D1 athlete and hall of fame coach only posts here to be a jackass. Valid questions Brad. Why is he here? You would think an ex D1 athlete would not stoop to the level of us peasants here.

I do not hate Mormons. What I do not like is PSU football and their arrogant fan base. Never have and never will and I am sure I can speak for most Pitt fans when I say that. What were you D1 in? Curious what kind of shape you are in. You probably can not tie your own shoes any longer.

Gotta love the “long NFL career” of Deon Butler and Derrick Williams. I will give you that Penn State has produced 5 WRs who have produced something in the NFL in the last 30 years. Definitely a beacon of mediocrity.

Penn St does not produce good NFL players. You are right about that.
They are great at aiding and abetting the destruction of children all over State College though.

Oh Edward, Miami’s offense in 86 blew away Pitt’s 80 team and PSU reduced them to nothing.

The 80 team was the best team ever. You are thinking of the 81 team.
The 80 team beat PSU 14-9. Pitt’s Defense with Hugh Green and Rickey Jackson would have used Testaverde’s head as a trampoline.

yes, I was bringing up 48-14 when pitt was #1 and PSU came in and blew them out.
That Miami team would have destroyed the 80 pitt team.

I’ll take things that will never happen for $1000, Alex. This is making sure he gets a spot at a decent P5 school, and a school desperate enough to hold his spot until he finds a better date. I’ll count the guys when they step on the field for their 1st game. In the era, this is nothing more than tantalizing lip service.

Although I agree that this certainly isn’t a sure thing, it’s better to have him commit to pitt than to some place else. You people act like this is a bad thing.
Keep getting big time recruits to commit and a fair share will show up when it counts. Great job underwood.

Jared Wayne had a good year. With a QB that had better reads he could have pushed the 100 catch total this year. To say the receivers only block in
Cignettis offense proves your own stupidity.

wow Eddie, relax it’s sarcasm. I don’t actually think they only block. Take a deep breath…
55 catches is a good season for a pitt receiver. So a “better” QB would have increased his totals by 45 receptions. Sure genius.
