2024 3-Star DT Francis Brewu’s Junior Day Visit Ended With Offer From a ‘Dream School’

Published

on

Francis Brewu didn’t go into his recent Junior Day visit at Pitt with an offer, but he was thankful to leave with an offer from one of his dream schools.

Brewu — a 6-foot-2, 270-pound defensive tackle from Thomas Worthington High in Columbus, Ohio — was hoping that he’d be able to head home with an offer, but he wasn’t expecting it. He liked Pitt, but now he knows it’s mutual.

“I was hoping for (an offer),” Brewu told PSN. “I wasn’t necessarily expecting one, but I knew that it was definitely a possibility because I knew my head coach said they really liked me. Pitt is one of my dream schools.”

Pitt became the 13th school to officially extend an offer to Brewu over the weekend, joining a list that includes Akron, Ball State, Boston College, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Duke, Iowa State, Kent State, Miami (Oh.), Ohio, Toledo and Western Michigan.

And while an official offer was a key takeaway from this weekend, it wasn’t the only one. Especially not as Brewu made his Junior Day visit.

“It was great,” Brewu said. “I got a lot of one-on-one time with the coaches, which is always great because not many places down that. That was pretty neat. I love the facilities and everything. I love the energy. It’s just a great place to be.”

Brewu spent some time with both defensive line coach Charlie Partridge and Ryan Manalac Saturday — with Manalac officially extending the offer. He’s fostered a bond with both coaches already.

When it comes to Partridge, who would be his potential position coach, he’s seen what Partridge has done for “undersized” defensive linemen. In this case, it’s a resume lining up perfectly with a personality.

“I can tell (Partridge’s) a great guy, he’s got a great personality,” Brewu said. “You can really tell he loves the sport of football. He has the resume to back up being a great coach, winning defensive line coach of the year twice to something like that, which is insane.”

He spent time breaking down Pitt’s defensive line film with Partridge Saturday, getting to see how Pitt’s defensive line operates technique-wise and schematically, and he enjoyed the coaching from one of the best in the business.

But Brewu — and his parents — spent most of his time with Manalac Saturday.

“(Manalac’s) a great guy with a great personality, you can tell he really cares about his players as a person and a player,” Brewu said.

It’s not hard to see why Pitt has interest in him as a player either. As a junior at Thomas Worthington, Brewu racked up 74 tackles (42 solo), 21 tackles for loss, 12 sacks and two fumble recoveries on the defensive line.

247Sports rates Brewu as the 75th-ranked defensive lineman and the 52nd-ranked recruit from Ohio in the class of 2024. Rivals and On3 haven’t rated him yet, but that will likely change in the days and weeks ahead.

When it comes to Brewu’s future plans, he’s got Boston College, Duke and Iowa State on his radar. And of course, he’s planning to make it back out to Pitt for spring practices.

Pitt has already established itself as a place where Brewu could see himself playing.

“It seems like a great place to be and a great place to play at, and they’re very caring, which is what I look for,” Brewu said. “A family type of environment.”

Great for Francis Brewu and PITT! Seems like a great kid and I am sure that he will be an accomplished student / athlete…..unlike “on campus stadium please” that has nothing else to do but critique from his Mom’s basement.

Oh Jason, first off thanks for the clicks and response….
2nd, you should really lighten up. It’s trash talk, something you non-football players never experienced.
A kid from Columbus, OH should only have one dream school. But having no rankings won’t get the OSU offer. Hopefully duzz can fend off Akron and Bowling Green here.

Oh Dick,
Words hurt, and I’m dumb not stupid. I’ll be calling my high priced lawyer to reply to your libelous false statement.
I always love the “Donald was low ranked” statement. Do any fans here admit that shi*t is doing an awful job recruiting? When the transfer rules are tightened what is duzz going to do then? Right now there is zero depth with low 3 and high 2 ranked players coming to use the Steelers stadium
I’ll finish with thanking you for the click and reply. It’s so easy here.

OCSP,
Of course, it is just trash talk. But it is also disgusting to have you, as a troll, commenting on every good young kid that has a dream. Francis and every other student athlete has worked hard to get to this point and to read your first grade analysis is embarrassing to the rest of us that actually care.
Anyway, back to your mom’s basement. It is almost dinner time!!

Take it from someone who “DID” play football and was a starting WR/ DB on a state championship winning team. What you do is not trash talk. It’s actually narcissism and living vicariously. Not once when I heard trash talk from opponents did I feel like I was in the 2nd grade like I do reading here. You remind me of the guy who still wears his letterman jacket on the weekends. Not one person cares, but yet you still feel the need to remind everyone of your 5 minutes of fame.

Whoahh!!!! Starting WR/DB on a state championship team! Bravo sir, but who is speaking of glory days here now? I’ve not once spoke about my “glory days”, which went a bit further than your Division VII powerhouse squad
