With the 2022-23 season coming to an official close on Sunday, more and more players and coaches are sharing their thoughts on the season.

As was displayed during the season both on and off the court, togetherness and family are two common themes we’re hearing from members of the Pitt program.

We’ve heard a lot from the Pitt seniors about how special this past season was to them and today, we’re hearing the same thing from a member of the coaching staff.

Assistant coach Jason Capel posted this heartfelt message this morning on Instagram, talking about what this season meant to him.

“I’ve been around basketball my entire life. I’ve always been a part of a team. From HS to College, Pro’s Overseas, assistant coach to becoming a head coach. This has been the BEST group I have EVER been a part of. The most Unselfish, most Together; the Organic way in which we became a TEAM. Through adversity, through success. These guys FOUGHT. These guys BELIEVED. These guys APPRECIATED what it means to wear that Pitt jersey. EVFRY DAY!!

And for that, with their sheer JOY of one another; their singular focus on a common goal- They made a Campus, Faculty, Student Body, A City, Fall in Love with them.

I’m grateful to be a part of THIS group. A TEAM of fighter’s man. 10 rounds. Rocky 5. Street Fight. Who have FOREVER left their mark on this program.

Focused, Disciplined. Connected.

It was truly a BEAUTIFUL experience.

The Kids, The TEAM, that no one believed in; proved OURSELVES right. And had so much damn FUN in the process.

I will NEVER forget the HAPPINESS and EXCITEMENT an ENTIRE arena exploded into when Fisch Sticks broke out the high crossover into the feathery Lefty Lay off the Glass on Senior Night. And then in unison, his teammates- ALL running to celebrate HIM.

G3’s Corner Store ALWAYS being open.

JB’s Mariano Clutch gene, Nike’s “Game: Blouses” oop vs. Cuse or the Red Sea Finish vs. UVA, and The Hometown Hero Nellyville delivering on our first conversation.

That was this years’ 2023 Pitt Men’s Basketball TEAM. Humble, Hungry. I’ll Cherish these Moments for a Lifetime.

See You at Work……

Jason, you said it so very well! I’ve been a hoops fan for over 60 years. Nothing tops this year’s TEAM! The only Pitt game we miss is when we’re out of town for Thanksgiving… over many years. All of you, players and coaches are truly unforgettable! Thank you all for such an exciting, inspiring, joyous season!
