Federiko Federiko is back home in Finland with the goal of representing his country. Pitt Athletics announced Monday that the rising junior will compete for a roster spot on the Finnish National Team this summer.

The 6-foot-11 forward is lined up to train with the team and play four games this summer from June 5-29. 18 other players were invited to compete for a roster spot on the squad representing Finland in the 2023 World Cup (Aug. 25 – Sept. 10).

A native of Helsinki, Finland, Federiko played 49 total games as a member of his country’s U16, U18, and U20 national teams. Finland will face Germany, Australia, and Japan in Group E. 32 teams are represented in the 2023 World Cup, which is being hosted by Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines.

In over 23 minutes per game, Federiko was a consistent force in the paint as a scorer and rim protector. He averaged 6.6 points and 5.3 rebounds in 35 games (27 starts) and led Pitt in field-goal percentage (67.7%), blocks (58), dunks (39), and offensive rebounds (86). Federiko ranked third in the ACC in blocks per game (1.66) and registered 12 appearances with three or more blocks.
