Pittsburgh Central Catholic Class of 2024 wide receiver Peter Gonzalez announced his top three schools on Wednesday, in Penn State, Virginia Tech and Miami.
Gonzalez earned a spot on the Pa. Football Writers 6A all-state team in 2022. Despite missing the early part of the season with injury, he finished last season with 42 receptions, 735 receiving yards and seven receiving touchdowns.
247sports, Rivals and On3 all rank Gonzalez as a three-star. 247sports has him as the No. 28 player in Pennsylvania and No. 121 wide receiver in his class, while On3 ranks him as the No. 29 in Pennsylvania and No. 147 wide receiver in his class.
He is the son of former Pitt quarterback Pete Gonzalez, who started for the team in 1997. Pete would lead Pitt to their first bowl game in eight years, throwing for 2,657 yards and 30 touchdowns. His most memorable performance came in a comeback victory over rival West Virginia in double overtime.
Gonzalez also received offers from ACC schools in Pitt and Syracuse , Big 12 schools in Cincinnati, Iowa State and WVU, Big Ten schools in Maryland and Wisconsin, MAC schools in Bowling Green, Central Michigan and Akron, as well as Marshall, UConn and Eastern Kentucky.
Another wannabe who will be back in the transfer portal within a year. I guess to much pressure to play for Pitt.
Really surprising that Pitt didn’t make his top-3 when considering his father was the Pitt QB. Why struggling Virginia Tech?? Strange.
