Pitt’s busy month of June is slowly coming to the forefront as new commitments unveil themselves just about every day.

Nigel Maynard (three-star defensive back) and Caleb Holmes (four-star offensive lineman) have announced their commitments over the last 24 hours, and they’ve been joined by Chasen Johnson.

Johnson — a 6-foot-1, 180-pound three-star cornerback from Seminole High School in Seminole, Florida — officially announced his commitment to Pitt Sunday afternoon, following an official visit to Pittsburgh over the weekend.

He committed to Pitt over offers from Appalachian State, Cincinnati, Connecticut, FAU, Florida State, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State, Louisville, Massachusetts, Missouri, Oregon State, Troy, UCF and Western Michigan.

Pitt first extended Johnson an offer back in January, with Tim Salem starting the relationship, and it advanced far enough for an official visit to be scheduled from June 8-10. As he spent more time with the coaching staff, including Archie Collins and Cory Sanders, it led to a commitment.

With excellent length as a cornerback, Johnson isn’t afraid to use his size when dropping down to play around the line of scrimmage, but he’s instinctual on the backend and able to shadow opposing wide receivers.

As a junior at Seminole, Johnson recorded 17 tackles (10 solo), two tackles for loss, for pass breakups and blocked two kicks (a punt and two field goals).

247Sports rates Johnson as the 978th-ranked recruit in the class (67th-ranked cornerback and 113th-ranked recruit from Florida) while On3 rates him as the 942nd-ranked recruit in the class (96th-ranked cornerback and 126th-ranked recruit from Florida).

Rivals hasn’t rated him yet, but he does hold a 5.6 Rivals Rating.

Johnson made an official visit to South Carolina during the first weekend of June, and he had been scheduled to take an official visit to West Virginia, but as the newest member of the Pitt Panthers, he’s locked in.

He is Pitt’s fifth cornerback in the class of 2024, joining Maynard, Tayshawn Banks (three-star safety), Davion Pritchard (three-star cornerback) and Allen Bryant (three-star safety).

There are still three unannounced Pat Signals from this most recent weekend of official visitors — and one more from the first weekend.
