BETHEL PARK — The Canon-McMillan Big Macs (3-1 6A) walked into Bethel Park’s (1-3 5A) house and left with a 28-8 victory. After the Black Hawks struck first, it was all Canon-Mac from that point forward as Michael Evans and Zachary Welsh carried the Big Macs to their third victory of the season.

On the Black Hawks’ second offensive drive of the game, they went 71 yards in two plays to jump out to an 8-0 lead midway through the first quarter. Ja’Vaughn Moore started the offensive action with a 35-yard run which was followed up by a long scoring strike as Tanner Pfeuffer found Ryan Petras in the flats, and Petras rumbled his way for a 36-yard touchdown.

The Big Macs answered back later in the first quarter as Evans scored on a 1-yard rush. This scoring drive was possible due to 38 rushing yards by Welsh after the Black Hawks botched a punt that left the Big Macs with a short field.

The Big Macs followed it up on their next offensive drive with another score as Evans led a 93-yard scoring drive that ended with a 1-yard touchdown run by Geno Calgaro.

On their second offensive drive of the second half, the Big Macs extended their lead to 21-8 after Welsh scored on a 6-yard scamper.

After that score, the Big Macs relied on their defense to shut the Black Hawks’ offense down as the defensive unit forced x straight drives that resulted in either a three-and-out or an interception. The Black Hawks managed to pick up a few first downs after that drought but could not manufacture another scoring drive against the stingy Big Mac defense.

A fourth down conversion by the Big Macs led to another Welsh rushing touchdown late in the fourth quarter which put the game on ice as Canon-McMillan handled their business on the road against a team in a smaller classification than them.

Next week, the Big Macs play host to South Fayette while the Black Hawks stay at home to open up their section play against their neighbors in Baldwin.
