Pitt volleyball had no trouble with Boston College Friday night, sweeping them at Fitzgerald Field House for the first ACC home win of the season.

The Panthers (12-2 overall, 3-0 ACC) are currently on a six-game winning streak, where they haven’t dropped a single set. The win against the Eagles (11-6 overall, 0-3 ACC) improves their record all-time series to 38-1. It is also the 20th consecutive win, makes the Panthers 20-0 at home and 15-0 since joining the ACC in 2013 in the series, respectively.

Pitt started out the first set on a 7-2 run and continued to increase their lead to 14-6, then 20-10 and finally 25-12. They also began the second set on a 7-2 run, but Boston College battled back to tie it up at 8-8.

That was the last time the Eagles had a chance in the match, as the Panthers then proceeded to score eight of the next nine points to earn a 16-9 advantage and would win the set 25-19. The third set saw the Panthers start out with a 10-1 lead, increased it to 16-3 and then 20-6. The Eagles would make the set somewhat respectable, but the Panthers took it in the end, 25-15, to earn the sweep.

Pitt finished with a .422 hitting percentage in the win over Boston College, while hitting .600 in the first set and .500 in the second set. They also had a great defensive performance, holding Boston College to a .085 hitting percentage themselves.

First-years in right side hitter Olivia Babcock and outside hitter Torrey Stafford both led the Panthers on the attack. Babcock had 14 kills, second most in 2023, to lead the Panthers and also hit .440, while Stafford had 13 kills, hit .500 and led Pitt with seven digs.

Redshirt outside hitter Valeria Vasquez Gomez finished first on Pitt with a .533 hitting percentage, while making nine kills and three total blocks.

Junior setter Rachel Fairbanks led the Panthers once again in assists with 36, a season-high for her, while graduate middle blocker Emma Monks led in total blocks with four.

Pitt volleyball will host Syracuse on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 1 p.m. to finish the weekend.
