Year: Redshirt Junior
Last year: Austin spent the first two years of his career at High Point, averaging 14+ points per game in each of his two seasons playing for the Panthers. As a sophomore last year, he started 26 games, playing 29.2 minutes per game (five minutes per game less than his freshman season). Austin hit two threes per game, shooting 33% from downtown. He also grabbed 5.4 rebounds per game.
He scored 18+ points ten different times last year, headlined by a 26-point outburst in a loss to Radford. He also had 3+ blocks 12 different times, including a six-block game against Winthrop.
The storyline: Austin is a high-flying wing who has been praised for his explosiveness and his ability to create highlight plays. While on Pitt’s foreign tour, Austin threw down numerous explosive slams en route to overall strong stat lines. In Pitt’s recent scrimmage win over Georgetown, Austin scored eight points and blocked two shots.

In his own words: “I’m big on family,” Austin said when discussing his commitment to Pitt. “So just coming to a place, regardless of how far it is from home, just knowing I have people that have my back. Cape, he’s a North Carolina kid too, so he knows how it is. Just that, you know, playing time, playing situations, just having the ability to do something, to bring this community back basketball. I feel like that led to me coming here.”
