Bub Carrington Records Triple-Double in Collegiate Debut, Fifth in Program History

Bub Carrington is going to be a problem for opposing teams this season.

The Pitt freshman point guard started in his first-ever collegiate basketball game and recorded a triple-double with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists in Pitt’s 100-52 win against NC A&T.

Carrington’s triple-double is the first for a Pitt Panther since Ricardo Greer did so against Villanova in 1998. It’s the fifth-ever in program history and first in 25 years, joining Greer, Darelle Porter (1990-91), and Keith Starr (1974-75), who accomplished it twice in the same season. Carrington became the first Panther player to record a triple-double in his first career game.

Carrington left the game with his fellow starters late in the second half with nine assists, but head coach Jeff Capel returned Carrington to the game seconds later to accomplish the historic feat.

The four-star recruit recorded seven points, seven rebounds, and five assists in the first half Monday night.

Carrington guided the offense to a 9-0 start and a 50-15 lead at halftime. He played just under 15 minutes in the opening half, second on the team behind Federiko Federiko (16:03).

Carrington reached double-digit rebounds before surpassing double-digit points, grabbing his 10th board with seven points on the score sheet.

He also became the third Panther ever to record a double-double in his freshman debut. Carrington joined Pitt legends DeJuan Blair and Sean Miller as the only other two players to accomplish a double-double in their first game.

All this in his collegiate debut.
