The home portion of Pitt’s 2023 schedule is now complete following a 24-16 win over Boston College.
The story of today’s game was Pat Narduzzi deciding to start redshirt sophomore quarterback Nate Yarnell, Pitt’s third different quarterback this season.
Yarnell looked remarkably better than what we’ve seen from the quarterback position this season, and it will no doubt raise the question of why he wasn’t given an opportunity before now. The other story was the record-setting performance by running back Rodney Hammond Jr., who’s been ignored all season by offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti Jr.
Pitt is now 3-8 with the final game of the season next Saturday at Duke. Despite the win, the criticism and heat on this coaching staff will only increase considering its misuse of personnel all season.
Still need to tell Frank GOODBYE
I gotta echo the sentiment above and say that this game underscores how insane it was not to get Rodney Hammond the ball more this year. In fact, given the way the QB’s have struggled almost all year, he really should have been the go-to guy in this offense, getting 10-20 touches per game, through the air and on the ground. Whoever screwed this up (probably Cignetti) all season ought to be tossed off the West End Bridge.
For whatever reason the coaching staff felt flo was the answer at rb and he’s easily fourth best on the depth chart. Especially in short yardage Carter should have been in there for those tough yards but hey seem like defensive lineman were coming in unblocked I’ve been saying fire Borbly since last year
Pretty obvious watching the game, Nate didn’t have to hit any down & out sideline throws. Cause none were called. Most all his passes were down the middle or within the hash marks. Much easier passes to complete. BC’s defense avg’d giving up 28 ppg and Pitt scored 24. Good win, but I expect if the same playcalls were made, the 2nd string QB could have won the game as well. And with Hammond getting 150 yrds, which was another YUGE factor.
