Update (9:19 PM)-

The Duquesne Women’s Basketball Team won its Atlantic 10 opener besting Fordham 75-73 in overtime Tuesday night at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.

Naelle Bernard paced Duquesne (4-3, 1-1 Atlantic 10) with 17 points and a career high seven assists. Tess Myers recorded 13 points and eight rebounds, while Precious Johnson matched with 13 points of her own. Megan McConnell finished play with 12 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Kiandra Browne got her first start as a Duke putting together a final line consisting of nine points and 10 rebounds, the latter of which matched a career high.

Duquesne’s sluggish start came with missed shots from beyond the arc and a 1-for-9 clip from deep, but a more physical second quarter started to turn the tides as the Dukes led at halftime.

Towards the end of the third quarter, Myers and McConnell each buried multiple three-point shots. McConnell’s triple with two seconds left in the quarter proved a high point in the game, completing an 18-4 run.

Fordham put up 28 points in the fourth quarter and opened on a 10-0 run, though both teams were unable to get a deciding basket in the final minute.

Duquesne did enough in the overtime period as Browne punched the ball away securing victory. The Dukes return Sunday for the second of a four-game homestand against Kent State.
