Pitt football wide receiver Addison Copeland III announced his intent to transfer on Saturday, putting out a statement on his Twitter.
“After careful consideration and discussions with my family, coaches and mentors, I believe that entering the transfer portal on December 4th and exploring new opportunities is in the best interest of my athletic and academic growth,” Copeland wrote in a statement.
“During my time at the University of Pittsburgh, I have had the privilege of being a part of an exceptional athletic program and community. Extremely honored to have built relationships that I hold dear. I want to express my sincere gratitude for the support, guidance and opportunities provided for me by coach Narduzzi, coach Underwood, coach Kline and many more. Thank you for your continued support. Sincerely, Addison Copeland III.”
Copeland never made an appearance in his two seasons with the Panthers. He came in as a member of the Class of 2022 as a three-star wide out. 247Sports rated him as No. 8 recruit in New York and No. 150 wide receiver in his Class, while Rivals had him as the No. 5 recruit in New York.
Since he redshirted his first season, he will arrive at his new school as a redshirt sophomore with three years left of eligibility.
He is the second wide receiver that entered their name into the transfer portal, with walk-on and rising redshirt sophomore Lorenzo Jenkins doing so on Monday.
Copeland is the ninth Pitt player to transfer and the first offensive player on scholarship. Seven of the other players came from the defensive side of the ball, which includes linebackers in rising redshirt seniors Brandon George, Bangally Kamara, Aydin Henningham, redshirt senior defensive linemen Deandre Jules and Nate Temple and defensive backs in rising redshirt senior Buddy Mack and rising redshirt junior Stephon Hall.
Rising redshirt senior Long snapper Byron Floyd also announced his decision to transfer on Friday, becoming the first special teams player for Pitt to do so.
Pitt did manage to retain a big time player in rising senior tight end Gavin Bartholomew, who committed to his final season with the program on Friday.
Apparently, the players throughout FBS are testing the NIL market. If the dollars are better at home they stay, otherwise…
Clown.
Don’t these kids have girlfriends?
I forgot he was still on the roster. In the end, the portal movement usually evens out.
