Pitt Extends Offer to All-CAA Elon Tight End

Pitt hasn’t landed a tight end commit, and currently isn’t lined up to do so in the class of 2024, for a couple of years now.

So, Tim Salem and the coaching staff have hit the transfer portal hard in the hopes of bringing more tight ends to Pittsburgh. An Oregon State tight end is scheduled to visit this weekend, and an All-CAA tight picked up an offer Thursday morning.

Johncarlos Miller, a 6-foot-5, 245-pound tight end from Greensboro, N.C., announced that Pitt was the latest school to extend an offer since he entered the portal earlier this week.

He’s also received offers from Houston, Texas Tech, Arkansas State, UConn and West Virginia.

Miller received just one offer out of high school, signing with Elon in the class of 2021, and he’s blossomed into a player who will have a much more robust recruiting chase the second time around.

He was a key weapon offensively for the Phoenix in 2023, splitting time between lining up inline and in the slot, and he turned his opportunity into production. He hauled in 25-of-40 targets for 451 yards (18 yards per reception) and four touchdowns.

Miller was effective with the football in his hands, racking up 216 yards after catch (8.6 yards after catch/route run), and he hauled in 4-0f-8 contested catch opportunities. 16 of his receptions went for first downs.

Elon effectively used Miller as a deep threat — hauling in 5-of-7 targets at least 20 yards downfield for 158 yards and a touchdown — and he received a lot of work short of the sticks, too.

He will have two seasons of eligibility remaining at his next location.

Gavin Bartholomew’s return, along with Karter Johnson, paves the way for what should be a productive tight ends room for the new offensive coordinator and whoever is playing quarterback at Pitt next season.

After a season in which many thought Bartholomew would not return to Pitt for his final season, his return is a massive win for the coaching staff and the Panthers’ NIL efforts. And with Bartholomew, Johnson, Jake Renda and Cole Mitchell, there’s a solid foundation.

Pitt does not currently have a tight end committed to the class of 2024.

First it is wide receivers, now TE’s. Pitt has a very good TE that you will not throw to. I do not understand these decisions but now I see why Pitt loses, COACHING”””””

I have been a fan for more than 40 years. Pitt had a terrible season in 2023. But for the most part, we have a winning program. The coaching problem in 2023 was mainly the OC. The damage done by one terrible was horrible. Pitt has addressed it. Pitt seems to be doing ok in the transfer portal. Thank you Alliance 412.
