Efton Reid to Play at Pitt on Wednesday Years After Nearly Choosing Panthers

Published

The name Efton Reid is certainly a familiar one for die-hard Pitt basketball fans.

Reid, a former five-star center in the class of 2021, nearly chose the Panthers in his initial recruitment process. His recruitment process was quiet — there were no solid predictions or scoops released that knew where he was going to end up. Schools such as Florida State, Pitt, Ohio State, LSU, and others were reportedly in the mix for Reid.

After he initially set a commitment date for April 15, that day went by without any word from Reid. Throughout the day, several national reporters posted that Reid had committed to Pitt after a Twitter account claiming it was Reid posted a fake commitment to the Panthers. However, there was still no word from Reid himself, or from his family.

His commitment was then delayed until May 9, when he eventually chose Will Wade’s LSU Tigers. However, in that time frame, PSN reported that Reid had verbally committed to Jeff Capel and Pitt.

Read more about the saga here.

Fast forward to the present day, and Reid has played for three different teams in three seasons of college ball. After playing one year for LSU and starting all 34 games (6.3 PPG), Reid transferred to Gonzaga, where he appeared in 25 games but did not start in any. Now, at Wake Forest, he has found his stride after receiving immediate eligibility. Reid is averaging 8.3 points and 8.7 rebounds per game in a big role inside for Steve Forbes’ squad.

Watch Reid and the Demon Deacons play against Pitt at the Petersen Events Center on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The game will be televised on ACC Network.
