Thursday’s Best ESPN BET Bets: Penguins-Blackhawks, Minnesota-Purdue, Bucks-Grizzlies
It was our first down night in awhile for the Winning Picks, going 1-2. Florida was our only win as they broke the hearts of Penguins fans in their blowout win in Pittsburgh. Our two basketball picks did not hit however as Penn St could not cover in their loss to Michigan St and the Hawks could not help get us the over in their game against the Hornets. We moved to 152-112-3 on the year.
As we get closer and closer to baseball being backed as players report to Spring Training, we have to start talking about some player futures. Without Shohei Ohtani in the American League, new names have a chance to emerge as the AL MVP this year. Two players that I really like for AL MVP include Julio Rodriguez and Bobby Witt Jr.
Right now on ESPN Bet, Rodriguez is 10/1 to win the award while Witt Jr is 20/1. Both are coming off great 2023 seasons where Julio finished 4th in MVP voting while Bobby finished 7th. Don’t be surprised, barring injury, that these two are neck and neck for the AL MVP.

Pittsburgh Penguins (-210) at Chicago Blackhawks O/U 5.5 8:30 PM on SportsNet Pittsburgh
The Penguins are becoming a fixture in the Midwest of North America recently as they play their 3rd game in the middle of the continent as they face the Blackhawks in Chicago. This Pens team is in desperate need of a win and facing a Blackhawk team without Connor Bedard could be the recipe to get Pittsburgh back to their winning ways. Or so you would think.
Chicago has won 3 of their last 4 games against Pittsburgh dating back to 2021 including those embarrassing losses at the end of last season and the beginning of this season. Since the spread is way too high to take the Penguins tonight, I will be on the over. The Pens come in motivated with the backs against the wall and find the back of the net.

Minnesota Golden Gophers at Purdue Boilermakers (-16.5) O/U 146.5 8:30 PM on Big Ten Network
The Golden Gophers should change their nickname to the Golden Tickets this season because that is what they have been for sports bettors. After their cover on Sunday in Iowa, they are now 20-3 against the spread this year. That’s an insane 87% win percentage. But tonight they will have to face the big, bad wolf of the Big Ten the Purdue Boilermakers.
Now, the Boilermakers are no slouches ATS either. Purdue is currently 14-8-2 on the year. The big question tonight for the Gophers is if guard Dawson Garcia will play after taking one in the family jewels midway through the Iowa game, forcing him to miss the rest of the game. Whether he plays or not, I like Minnesota to keep this run going and cover again tonight against Purdue.

Milwaukee Bucks (-11.5) at Memphis Grizzlies O/U 222.5 8:30 PM on TNT
Two teams headed in completely opposite directions as the Grizzlies will host the Bucks in Memphis. This has become a lost season for the Grizzlies after losing Ja Morant to suspension and then to a season ending injury. Milwaukee has their own issues altogether as they continue to try and gel with new coach Doc Rivers.
I never understood why they chose Rivers to coach this team over all the other options out there. I guess the Bucks just want to exit the playoffs in the conference semifinals, a trend that has plagued Rivers led teams since winning it all with the Celtics in 2008. As for tonight, this is a big get right game for Milwaukee as they will roll past Memphis on TNT.
