Friday’s Best ESPN BET Bets: Villanova-Georgetown, Hurricanes-Coyotes, New Mexico-San Diego St

Another rough night for the Winning Picks last night, finishing up 1-2. The pick that did win was Minnesota, covering the spread at Purdue. These Gophers have been the gift that keeps on giving this year, moving to an incredible 21-3 ATS this year. Our two other picks did not win as the over could not cover in the Penguins/Blackhawks game and the Bucks lost to the Grizzlies, which means they failed to cover as well. We moved to 153-114-3 on the year.

For the next week, I will be on vacation in Florida but the Winning Picks will still stage on. Being that I am staying in Sarasota, there is a MLB team that made a lot of noise last year that calls Sarasota home for Spring Training. That is the Baltimore Orioles.

The O’s were one of the biggest surprises in baseball last year, winning the AL East for the first time since 2014. They are powered by young stars like Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson, who are both 20/1 to win the AL MVP next year (same odds as Bobby Wiit Jr).

Hopefully I get to see one of the Orioles players at one of the local watering holes to see how they feel about the upcoming season. Currently, they are listed as 12/1 to win the World Series and have the second shortest odds to repeat as AL East champs at +225. I believe the O’s will be a great bet to make for the 2024 season, even if they are not sneaking up on anyone anymore.

Now time for the Winning Picks!

Villanova Wildcats (-9.5) at Georgetown Hoyas O/U 140.5 7:00 PM on CBS Sports Network

If you went back 15 to 20 years ago, a Villanova vs  Georgetown game would be must see tv on a prime time network. Now, both of these teams have been relegated to a Friday night as the Wildcats visit DC to take on the Hoyas.

Ed Cooley has done the best he could with the roster left to him, but his Hoyas are getting dismantled in the Big East. Seven of Georgetown’s twelve conference losses have been by 13 points or more. Villanova coach Kyle Neptune hasn’t had the problems Cooley is having, but he has been very average as coach. The Wildcats have some big wins this year including a win over North Carolina, but they find themselves 13-11 entering tonight’s game.

So who has the edge? Despite Villanova’s issues, they are still light years ahead of where Cooley has Georgetown at right now. The Wildcats will start out slow, but pull away and cover by double digits against the Hoyas.

Wildcats Covers -9.5, Villanova Wildcats 74  Georgetown Hoyas 63

Carolina Hurricanes (-215) at Arizona Coyotes O/U 6.5 9:00 PM on NHL Network

This is a very weird night in sports. No NBA games with it being All-Star weekend and Hurricanes/Coyotes is the only NHL game on the schedule. Carolina gets to play in the smallest arena in the NHL on the campus of Arizona St, Villanova/Georgetown might have more people in attendance.

When we picked the Hurricanes game with the Dallas Stars this week, it was known that Carolina isn’t the best road team. The Coyotes are surprisingly very good in this tiny arena, better than their much larger former arena. As for this game tonight, I like the under to cover in a low scoring Hurricanes win.

Under 6.5 Covers, Carolina Hurricanes 3  Arizona Coyotes 2

New Mexico Lobos at San Diego St Aztecs (-6.5) O/U 152.5 10:00 PM on FS1

In a slow night on the sports calendar, this will probably be the game of the day as the Lobos of New Mexico travel to San Diego to face the Aztecs. Both of these teams will more than likely be dancing next month and have their names called on Selection Sunday. For now, they are jockeying for first place in the Mountain West.

Both of these teams have been very good to the over this year, even going over in the 18 point win the Lobos had when these teams faced off in Albuquerque. But prior to that meeting in January, these teams went under the total in the previous 4 meetings. I believe that trend gets back on track tonight and the under covers in San Diego.

Under 152.5 Covers, New Mexico Lobos 69  San Diego St Aztecs 76
