Former Pitt Walk-on QB Lands Position as ACC Grad Assistant

Published

Former Pitt quarterback Eli Kosanovich.

Eli Kosanovich received an early start in his coaching career last season, and he’s officially received his start in the industry.

Kosanovich — a former Pitt walk-on quarterback from Aliquippa High in Aliquippa, Pa. — will serve as an offensive assistant at Boston College under quarterbacks coach Jonathan DiBiaso.

Kosanovich transitioned from a scout team quarterback to a student assistant last season, helping former offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti Jr. with the Pitt quarterbacks, and he played for DiBiaso during DiBiaso’s lone season as Cignetti’s grad assistant at Pitt in 2022.

Kosanovich only took a couple of snaps during his Pitt career, finishing out a 77-7 win against New Hampshire in 2021, but he served a key role during his five seasons as a Panther.

In five seasons, he was the quarterback his teammates relied upon him on a week-to-week basis — helping with weekly game prep in position meetings, throwing with pass catchers on game days and even serving as a signal caller on the sideline during games.

Kosanovich didn’t record any statistics during his time at Pitt, but he graduated with a business degree in finance and went back for his MBA, too.

After a year spent as a player coach at Pitt, it’s no surprise that he’s fully jumping into the profession. He has a way of building relationships with teammates, behind-the-scenes knowledge of how a college offense game plans and operates and his football mind is very good. It helps to work with a familiar face like DiBiaso.

He was an elite quarterback at Aliquippa back in the day, too, leading the Quips to a WPIAL and PIAA title as a senior in 2018. He threw for 3,189 yards and 39 touchdowns in his senior season, setting records in the process.

Pitt has two walk-on quarterbacks currently on the roster, Jake Frantl and David Lynch, and the Panthers have added Jacob Floyd as an offensive grad assistant and Daniel Turknett as an offensive quality control assistant.
