Pittsburgh will play host to a number of talented teams in the upcoming NCAA Basketball Tournament.

PPG Paints Arena will host the tournament for the fifth time, this time, hosting games in the Midwest and South regions. The following games will be played in Pittsburgh on Thursday, March 21.

SOUTH REGION

3 Kentucky Vs. 14 Oakland – 7:10 p.m.

Kentucky head coach John Calipari hails from Moon Township, Pennsylvania. The Wildcats also have Pittsburgh natives Tre Mitchell and Adou Thiero on the roster for this season. Mitchell is averaging 10.6 points per game while Thiero, the sophomore out of Quaker Valley, is averaging 7.5 points per game for the talented Wildcats.

6 Texas Tech Vs. 11 NC State – 9:40 p.m.

MIDWEST REGION

3 Creighton Vs. 14 Akron – 1:30 p.m.

Creighton will look to the three-headed monster of Baylor Scheierman, Trey Alexander, and Ryan Kalkbrenner to lead it back to the Elite Eight and beyond. Scheierman is one of the top shooters in the country, hitting 99 threes this year. Creighton was one of just three Big East teams to make the big dance.

6 South Carolina Vs. 11 Oregon – 4 p.m.

LOCAL TEAMS

Duquesne will travel to Omaha to play against No. 6 BYU on Thursday at 12:40 p.m. The Dukes won the Atlantic 10 on Sunday to clinch an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Pitt did not make the NCAA Tournament field, and was one of the first four teams out of the field. The Panthers announced shortly after that they declined an invitation to compete in the NIT tournament.

A good time to showcase the city. And lay the ground work for potential future transfers.

I thought that Duquesne was the host school.
