A WPIAL recruit in the class of 2026 is looking into reclassifying after undergoing surgery on his ankles recently.
Adam Gehm — a 6-foot-5, 235-pound tight end from Seneca Valley in Harmony, Pa. — announced on X (formerly known as Twitter) that he underwent surgery on his ankles and will miss the entire 2024 season. He will look into reclassifying to he class of 2027.
“After a very unexpected injury and result of MRI I’ll be undergoing surgery on my ankles, causing me to miss the 2024 season,” Gehm wrote on X. “These next 7 months will be the hardest time of my life being sidelined from the sports I love most. To all of the coaches recruiting me, I understand this is a very difficult obstacle to work around while going to be a junior recruit, I hope to maintain communication, this will not be the end.
“With that I’ll also be looking into reclassifying to the class of 2027 to give me the opportunity to replay my junior season when healthy. I’ll be back for 2025 regardless junior or senior at my best ever, a minor setback in a major journey only giving me another reason to work even harder. I will overcome this one way or another I believe god does everything for a reason.”
Gehm, who plays football and basketball at Seneca Valley, has picked up offers from Miami (Oh.) and Wisconsin, and he’s received interest from Akron, Florida, Michigan State, Penn State, Pitt and Virginia Tech.
It’s an unfortunate break for Gehm as he appears to be a WPIAL recruit on the rise, but a reclassification would allow him to get two more years of high school experience.
And while Gehm will not be able to compete on the field, he’ll still be able to take visits and continue to communicate with college coaches interested in his game.
Reclass how? Go prep or juco!
