Pitt’s Ishmael Leggett Returning for Senior Season with Panthers

Published

Pitt has officially locked in two key pieces to next year’s back court.

After Jaland Lowe recently announced that he would be returning to Pitt for his sophomore season, on Wednesday, Ishmael Leggett did the same. Leggett, the Prince George County, Maryland native, will be back in Oakland for his senior campaign with the Panthers next season during 2024-25.

The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 12.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game this year in his first year as a Panther. He scored in double figures in each of his first 11 games at Pitt, before going on a five-game streak of not reaching that mark. As Lowe’s role increased to the point of becoming a starter alongside Bub Carrington for Pitt, Leggett shifted to a sixth-man role, coming off the bench. He shined in the role that Jeff Capel described as the “sixth starter,” and was recognized with the ACC’s Sixth Man of the Year award following the season.

Leggett began his career at Rhode Island, playing in the Atlantic 10. After averaging 6.6 points per game as a rookie, he increased his statistics in each major category in each of the next two seasons with the Rams. In his third year in the program, he starred for the team, averaging 16.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game — all of which were career highs.

This season, Leggett capped off an impressive year with a strong 30-point, eight-rebound effort in a win over Wake Forest in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament.

Still makes me chuckle when I see a player that is already on the team telling us he is coming back for next season. Used ot be the only time you heard from a playewr was when he was transferring now they are announcing basically that they aren’t transferring.

Like everything else, it’s upside/down. USA has been literally turned on it’s head.

Literally carried Pitt into the semi’s of the ACC tourney with 30 points in a must win game. Best game for a Pitt player in a must win game….in a long long time.

Glad Ish is coming back, led the team not only in rebounding. But in guts & floorburns.
