Monday night’s news of Pitt defensive end Dayon Hayes hitting the transfer portal came as shocking news. Tuesday morning’s announcement of Christian Veilleux following in his footsteps, not so much.
The redshirt junior quarterback announced via X that he entered the portal with two years of eligibility left.
With a crowded quarterback room, it was rather expected that at least one of the scholarship signal callers would jump into the portal once it opened at midnight.
The 6-foot-4 Ottawa native spent one season with the Panthers after transferring from Penn State.
Veilleux wound up taking over the starting job for a period of time in 2023, making five starts in seven overall appearances. He completed 94 of 184 passes (51 percent) for 1,179 yards and seven touchdowns.
After taking the reigns from Phil Jurkovec, Veilleux threw for 200 yards and two touchdowns in his first career start to upset No. 14 Louisville.
A week later, he threw another two touchdowns in a solid outing on the road against Wake Forest. However, he would follow it up with a four interception performance against No. 14 Notre Dame, which was the beginning of the end for his time as the starter in a Panthers uniform as he threw eight picks on the year.
Following spring ball, with Nate Yarnell solidified as the starter in Kade Bell’s offense, Veilleux was expected to assume the third string role behind that of Alabama transfer Eli Holstein.
Veilleux won’t be the last transfer of the spring window as the Panthers still sit above the scholarship limit.
Best wishes CV. I expected him to leave if he fell to 3rd in depth chart. Absent injuries, he prob wouldn’t see the field again. Ty moves up but
similarly, he might not see action for another 2-3 yrs.
Dude was not good.
I think most Pitt fans expected this one
Why’s that. As i dont’ see any great QB’s on Pitt’s roster. The Texas kid played against the weakest part of the schedule. And still managed to lose against Duke.
Idiot.
Kid got the short end of the straw, as any Pitt QB would have stunk it up against Notre
Dame. They could be sorry if this kid from Texas doesn’t work out. Cause this kid is more mobile than the Texas kid.
They should have given CV the job in training camp. Phil cost the team the entire season. I would have loved to see a full season with CV’s development -> it was a terrible offense but he had some highlights just needed to be a little more careful with the ball.
Well….BYE!!!!
all that means is there is no more NIL money to throw around. Hope they spend it on the right guys because these 2 weren’t it…
H2P!
Off to throw interceptions somewhere else.
I’m actually shocked he didn’t transfer earlier. Once NY was named presumptive starter and Holstein came in he was bound to be buried. His unfortunate showing last year I’m sure didn’t impress KB enough to warrant consideration. Wish him all the best and lands somewhere he can develop and play for a few years. Good Luck young man!
Good luck !
