Bub Carrington Praised by Teammate: ‘He Turns Into a Killer’

Carrington finished NBA Summer League action with the following averages across his five games: 15.8 points per game, 7.4 rebounds per game, and 5.2 assists per game. He earned Second Team All-Summer League honors with his performance throughout the schedule in Vegas. Weeks ago, he returned to Pitt right after wrapping up Summer League to check out his former teammates and practice with them. In addition, Carrington took in The Basketball Tournament action along with fellow Pitt NBA alumni Blake Hinson and Justin Champagnie.

Carrington started 33 games for Pitt as a rookie, averaging 13.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. He shot 41% from the field and 32% from three-point range in his freshman campaign, and alongside Jaland Lowe and Ishmael Leggett, starred for the Panthers in the back court.

After training camp on Thursday, one of the Wizards’ players, Corey Kispert, offered high praise towards Carrington.

“He flips the switch,” Kispert said about Carrington. “He is the most friendly, talkative, bubbly guy off of the court, and then, as soon as the ball goes up, he turns into a killer. You want guys like that on your team and you hate playing against guys like that on other teams. Bub doesn’t know any better. He is so young and it is almost that naive confidence that he brings that helps feed me as an older guy on this team. I try to bring that same energy and match him because he kind of carries the energy if I don’t.”

Carrington is now +1100 to win NBA Rookie of the Year, the seventh-best odds to win the award (DraftKings).
