Former Western Carolina offensive tackle Derek Simmons has committed to play for the Oklahoma Sooners. Simmons is rated as the No. 4 offensive lineman in the portal.
Pitt offensive coordinator Kade Bell and Pitt were the first school to extend Simmons an offer, and he made an official visit to Pitt over the weekend. However, the big money from the SEC program was too much for him to pass up.
Simmons is the second transfer lineman that Oklahoma has received a commitment from, joining former Stanford Cardinal Luke Baklenko.
Simmons, who’s expected to compete for their left tackle position, will have one year of eligibility remaining.
During his time in college at Tusculum, Abilene Christian and Western Carolina, Simmons has played left tackle (62% of his snaps) and right tackle (31% of his snaps), with an additional 36 snaps at right guard.
Pat Narduzzi and his staff have offered a number of players currently in the portal but are still looking for their first commitment. Keep in mind though, it’s still early with thousands of players in the portal and hundreds more on the way.
