Robert Morris wraps its season up on Thursday evening on the road against the IU Indy Jaguars with a chance to clinch the top-seed in the Horizon League Tournament. While the Colonials enjoyed a win on Sunday, the Jaguars fell on the road to Northern Kentucky by the score of 71-67.

While the result of the game was not ideal for the Jaguars, their night got a whole lot worse when the team’s bus caught on fire while making the return trip to Indianapolis. All members of the travel party managed to get off of the bus without any injuries.

The reason behind the fire was reported to be a mechanical problem which made the bus pull over near the town of Kent, Indiana, which is about an hour and a half of a drive away from Indianapolis. The school announced that a new bus was on its way to pick the team up and transport them back to campus.

“On the return drive from today’s game against Northern Kentucky, the bus carrying the IU Indianapolis men’s basketball team experienced a mechanical issue that caused a fire around Kent, Indiana,” IU-Indy Athletics Department said in a statement following the incident. “All members of the team and staff evacuated the bus without injury. Another bus is en route to pick up the team and deliver them back to Indianapolis.”

While the Jaguars’ players and staff managed to escape unscathed, they have a matchup with the Horizon League’s top team to prepare for despite the scare that they suffered. The Colonials beat the Jaguars earlier this season when the Colonials doubled the Jaguars up in score as they won by a score of 106-53.

With a win and a little bit of help from other teams, Robert Morris can clinch its first ever Horizon League regular season title and No. 1 seed in the league tournament.
