SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Pitt point guard Xavier Johnson has become the 47th player in Panthers history to cross the 1,000-point plateau in Wednesday evening’s game at Syracuse.
Johnson had 998 career points in a Pitt uniform coming into the game, and after getting into early foul trouble, sat out most of the first half without scoring a point.
He got back into the game in the second half and hit the milestone quickly with a 3-point shot.
Johnson is the first Pitt player to record 1,000 career points since Jamel Artis on Feb. 16, 2016. Artis was one of three Pitt players to reach 1,000 points in that season along with James Robinson and Mike Young.
Johnson accomplished the feat in his 74th game for the Panthers. After coming to the team as a three-star prospect out of Woodbridge, Virginia, Johnson quickly became a pivotal part of Pitt’s rotation under head coach Jeff Capel.
