Damar Hamlin’s Chasing M’s Foundation set a goal of raising $2,500 for the local children in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania back before Christmas in 2020.

He wrote on GoFundMe that he was grateful to have the opportunity to work with all of his fans to help make the holiday season a little brighter for the underprivileged kids in his hometown of McKees Rocks.

“As I embark on my journey to the NFL, I will never forget where I come from and I am committed to using my platform to positively impact the community that raised me,” Hamlin wrote. “I created The Chasing M’s Foundation as a vehicle that will allow me to deliver that impact, and the first program is the 2020 Community Toy Drive.”

Hamlin, before the glitz and glamor of the NFL, chose to give back to his community.

Hamlin’s GoFundMe hovered around $4,000 Monday night, but after Hamlin suffered a serious medical emergency against the Cincinnati Bengals in the first quarter of the Bills-Bengals game, the NFL community as a whole banded together to give back where it mattered.

In just a couple of hours, Hamlin’s GoFundMe rose from under $10,000 to over $1 million dollars — and rising every minute.

It was a moment where a genuinely kind, compassionate human being — who happens to be a safety for the Buffalo Bills — received an overwhelming level of support from NFL fans from basically every team across the country.

Over 41,000 donors — and counting — have contributed to Hamlin’s GoFundMe, showing not only the level of camaraderie from the NFL community but the kind of impact Hamlin has off the football field.

Damar Hamlin is a human being, a wonderful human being at that, above all else, and football is not what is important right now.
