The Pitt football program haven’t extended many scholarships lately but they did so over the weekend.

2019 DE Michael Fletcher from Flint, Michigan picked up an offer from the Panthers.

Fletcher (6-foot-6, 240 pounds) is a super athletic player, as demonstrated by the fact that he’s also a basketball star at Carman-Ainsworth High School.

Aside from holding two D-1 basketball scholarships, Fletcher also has early football scholarships from Michigan State, Wisconsin, Iowa State and a handful of MAC schools.

By the time he’s a senior, Fletcher will be a major player in the recruiting scene so the Pitt staff obviously wanted to get in early with him.

PSN was able to catch up with Fletcher and asked him about his recruitment and the Pitt offer.

“I was kind of surprised about the offer because they haven’t been talking to me for very long but it was a good surprise,” said Fletcher.

”Coach Hill called me on the phone to let me know and we had a good conversation. He just said the D-line coach said I’m a big freak and I’d fit in with the youth of the team.”

I asked Fletcher about the strengths of his game.

”My IQ, work ethic, calmness, attitude and I’m coachable.”

After receiving the offer from hometown Michigan State, Fletcher was quoted as saying that was his “dream offer.” I asked him are they the favorites and are other schools going to have a hard time passing them up?

”Dreams can change. For me, it’s about what’s going to be the best fit. If I think somewhere is better than that’s where I’ll go.”

Time will tell if Pitt can be the fit for Fletcher.
