Pitt Football’s 2019 Commitments React to the Team’s Rocky Start
Pitt’s 2-3 start to the 2018 season has many people feeling restless.
The coaches and players are unhappy because they expected to get off to a better start.
The fans are frustrated because they just want to see consistent winning football and aren’t getting it.
But what about the recruits who have already given a verbal commitment to Pat Narduzzi?
In the cutthroat business of college recruiting, opposing coaches who might have interest in Pitt’s recruits are no doubt using the bad start against them.
Could it work?
Pittsburgh Sports Now reached out to each of Pitt’s 2019 verbal commitments to get their thoughts on the season and to find out if any are wavering in their commitment.
These are the players who replied back with their response.
Calijah Kancey, DT, Florida:
“Yeah the team has had a pretty bad start but I’m still 100% committed to Pitt football. I’m sure Coach will turn things around soon and I can’t wait to be apart of the program!”
Jason Collier, TE, New Jersey:
“I feel that they don’t need to worry about me because I’m holding to my commitment to Pitt and I’m signing in early signing day but other then that, yes their football teams not doing well but who know’s the Class of 2019 can make a difference and help with the tradition and the program.”
Davis Beville, QB, South Carolina:
“Everyone is still committed, we all want to be a part of a class that is very special and to take this program to the next level.”
Nick Malone, OT, West Virginia:
”I’m still super confident in Pitt and believe they will turn it around and start winning more football games. I haven’t had much contact with any coaches for a little but I bet they are busy trying to get back on track. I hope the best for the rest of the season and most of all H2P!!!”
Khadry Jackson, LB, Florida:
”I believe the team will work everything out, we just have to get back to the drawing board but I am still committed.”
Leslie Smith, LB, Florida:
”Although Pitt has gotten off to a slow start I Leslie Smith am still and will be 100% committed to coach Duzzi and the program. The Pitt players and coaching staff have always treated me like family since day one. Another reason I am 100% committed is because I feel like I can come up and make a huge impact on the program with my talent, hunger, and desire.”
Travis Koontz, TE, California:
”The slow start hasn’t really made me think negative about Pitt, but they aren’t really using their tight end so I’m pretty sure I’m going to start to weigh my options out more.”
Vincent Davis, RB, Florida:
”EVERYONE IS 100% COMMITTED.”
A.J. Woods, CB, Maryland:
”No thoughts or worries we all 100% committed.”
Kyi Wright, LB, Farrell HS:
”EVERYONE IS STILL 100% COMMITTED.”
Matthew Goncalves, OT, New York:
”Pitt has the toughest non-conference schedule in college football. Everyone is committed to come in and work as hard as they can to make this program better.”

I've been thinking a lot over the last couple weeks and I'm deciding to open my recruitment back up, I'd like to thank Pittsburghs staff for recruiting me, it's nothing against them they're a great program, I just need to make sure this decision is the BEST one for me.
