Notebook: Pitt to Wear Retros at ACC Championship Game

Pitt is expected to wear its retro uniforms in Saturday’s ACC Championship Game, Pittsburgh Sports Now has learned.

The Panthers hinted at the change on social media by changing the avatar of the @Pitt_FB twitter account to Pitt’s athletic gold and royal blue throwback colors, as well as posting photos and graphics of Pitt’s retro helmets and uniforms on both that account and that of head coach Pat Narduzzi.

It will be the fourth time this season Pitt has worn retro uniforms. They wore their royal blue uniforms in home wins over Syracuse on Oct. 6 and Virginia Tech on Nov. 10. They wore the white, road version in a loss at Notre Dame on Oct. 13.

Since introducing the throwbacks in 2016, Pitt is 4-2 in the home version and 0-3 in the road version.

The Coastal Division is designated as the home team, but opponents in the ACC Championship Game have worn color vs. color, with no team wearing white, in the past.

START ‘EM

Pitt made some changes to its official depth chart ahead of the championship game.

Taysir Mack is now listed as the starter at the X wide receiver position, bumping Aaron Mathews down. Mack had been behind Maurice Ffrench at the Z.

Carson Van Lynn is listed as the starting tight end, vaulting over Grant Carrigan (now second string) and Will Gragg (not listed).

Connor Dintino’s move to center and Bryce Hargrove getting bumped up to start at left guard are both now official. Brandon Ford is listed as the backup at both guard spots.

Saturday’s game will be broadcast nationally on ABC, with the crew of Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit and Maria Taylor on the call.

A Pitt spokesperson told Pittsburgh Sports Now on Monday that the Panthers have fewer than 500 tickets remaining in their allotment.

There are nearly 4,000 tickets available on StubHub, with a get-in price of $45 as of early on Tuesday.

Pitt will be playing its third game at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. They beat North Carolina in the Meineke Car Care Bowl in 2009 and lost to Virginia in the Continental Tire Bowl in 2003.
