Pitt’s Jeff Capel to Join CBS Broadcast of NCAA Tournament

Pitt’s men’s basketball team is not participating in March Madness this spring, but head coach Jeff Capel will be.

Pittsburgh Sports Now has learned that Capel will join the CBS broadcast of the NCAA Tournament and perform analysis from the studio during the first two days of the tournament, on Thursday, March 21, and Friday, March 22.

Capel just completed his first season as Pitt’s head coach, guiding the Panthers to a 14-19 overall record and a 3-15 mark against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents. Pitt finished its season on March 13 with a loss to Syracuse in the ACC tournament.

The appearance is believed to be a first for Capel, who had been an assistant coach with Duke and a head coach at Oklahoma and VCU before taking the job at Pitt just shy of a year ago.

Though this will be a first for Capel, Pitt’s coaches have made similar appearances in the past, if he needs some pointers. Pat Narduzzi has appeared on the ESPN coaches’ film room during the College Football Playoff and Capel’s brother and assistant coach, Jason, worked for Raycom Sports as a color commentator before joining him on the Pitt bench.
