McKeesport native Swin Cash has been named a first-time nominee for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame’s Class of 2020.
Cash, 40, was a 1998 graduate of McKeesport Area High School, where she was an All-American. She went to play for four years at UConn, where she was a two-time national champion and part of the Huskies’ 39-0 season in 2001-02.
The No. 2 overall pick in the 2002 WNBA Draft, Cash played for the Detroit Shock from 2002-07, Seattle Storm, Chicago Sky, Atlanta Dream and New York Liberty. She was a three-time WNBA champion, a four-time all-star and twice the MVP of the WNBA All-Star Game.
Cash also played internationally, winning gold medals with Team USA in the 2004 and 2012 Olympic Games.
She retired in 2016, and has since worked in sports media and is currently the vice president of basketball operations and team development for the New Orleans Pelicans.
Seton LaSalle, Penn State, Team USA and Cleveland Rockers guard and Oakland Catholic, Minnesota Lynx, Duquesne and Pitt head coach Suzie McConnell-Serio was also nominated by the women’s committee.
Central Catholic alum, former Pitt head coach and longtime NBA assistant Tim Grgurich was nominated as a contributor.
