** Heading into Wednesday, the biggest news of the day for Pitt is a visit they’re scheduled to receive from a talented prospect.  As we reported yesterday, 2019 DE Antonio Alfano is scheduled to visit today. Alfano told me that he’s going to be visiting with his father and his godfather.

It’s been a busy couple of months for this talented prospect, he received offers from Virginia Tech on June 10, Duke on June 11, Penn State on June 15. He visited Penn State on July 16, and will be at Ohio State’s Friday Night Lights camp on July 22 and visiting Notre Dame on July 23rd. I’ll talk with Alfano after his visit today.

** A Pitt target received a pretty big offer yesterday as Detroit 4-star defensive back Jaylen Kelly-Powell received a scholarship from Alabama. Powell (Cass Tech High School) , who recently attended “The Opening” in Oregon, will be traveling to Ohio State on Friday.

** An interesting basketball note to keep your eye on. 247 Sports is projecting that 4-star recruit Marcus Carr (Montvede, Florida) will eventually sign with Pitt. The interesting part of this is that Carr is point guard and Pitt has already received a commitment from Aaron Thompson (Fairfax, Virginia) for the Class of 2017.  We’ll keep an eye on this projection from 247 Sports on Marcus Carr.

** Since Pittsburgh Sports Now.com covers Pittsburgh, I’m going to start posting some Duquesne men’s basketball recruiting news. I’m a big believer in head coach Jim Ferry and believe that if the school is patient that he’ll win at Duquesne.

Speaking of Ferry, he’ll be in Orlando to watch guard Geo Baker from Proctor Academy in Derry, New Hampshire. Aside from Duquesne, Baker holds offers from George Mason, Drexel, George Washington, Kansas State and Rutgers.

** A week ago, I thought it was a lock that Florida wide receiver Dontavius Butler would commit to Pitt, now I’m not so sure. I just learned that Butler will not be making a visit to Pitt this Friday as expected.

“I enjoyed my time at Pitt today. I met coaches Tim and Landan Salem along with Coach Andrews. I like that they were down to earth guys. The campus was beautiful and I loved that it was in a city atmosphere. The Heinz Chapel and Cathedral were some of the spots that I visited today. I also love the fact that the school offers transportation to New Jersey during school breaks.  My dad liked Pitt a lot and I will continue to look at them,” said Alfano.
