Let’s get right into today’s recruiting notes.

UPDATE (12:23 PM)-
** It looks like Pitt is going to have a battle in trying to land a Ohio product. 3-star cornerback Josiah Scott (Fairfield, Ohio) received a big offer today from the Michigan State Spartans. Prior to today, Scott had named a final 3 of Pitt, West Virginia and Kentucky. Will that change? I’ll contact Scott this afternoon for his reaction. I felt as though Pitt was his leading school, but will this latest offer change things?

UPDATE (12:34 PM)-
** Now that coaches are returning from vacation and camp is about to begin, recruiting is really going to start picking up. In fact, tomorrow Pitt will be hosting an elite prospect in the Class of 2019.

Defensive end Antonio Alfano (Rahway, New Jersey) will be traveling to Pittsburgh with his father and godfather. Despite being only a sophomore, Alfano (6-5, 255) has already been offered by Penn State, Rutgers, Virginia Tech, Duke and Boston College.

Just minutes ago, I was able to briefly speak with Alfano about his trip to Pittsburgh.

“I decided to visit Pitt tomorrow because I heard a lot of good things from my friends (Carter Warren, Owen Drexel, Mike Tverdov) who have been offered there,” said Alfano.

“My interest in Pitt developed because of the things my friends have told me. I’ve had a little contact with Coach Salem via my head coach Nunzio Campanile. Also, I know Coach Panagos well because he was at Rutgers, he’s seen me at several camps. I’m looking forward to seeing the campus and the football facility.”

I’ll have a longer story with this big time prospect tomorrow after his visit to Pitt.

UPDATE (1:00 PM)-
**Some basketball news and it’s good for Pitt. A Top 100 ranked prospect announced his Top 5 and Pitt is included on it. Christian David (Vermont Academy in Saxtons River, Vermont) is rated as a 4-star forward and lists a final five of Pitt, Georgetown, Oregon, Miami (FL) and Creighton. I hope to have more with David a bit later.

UPDATE (1:44 PM)-
**Just spoke with Ohio CB Josiah Scott about earning an offer today from Michigan State and what it means for his recruitment.

“I was surprised… Coach Barnett said that he’s wanted to offer and coach me all along. It was just a process he had to go by. In the end he was happy they offered and can’t wait for me to make my decision,” said Scott.

“It now makes my top 3 a top 4 now with Michigan State. I was close to making my decision but with this offer it doesn’t change my decision timeline. I still want to make my decision by the end of July.”

UPDATE (6:24 PM)-
** Upper St. Clair RB/LB Thomas Vissman has committed to Yale.

According to PSN’s talent evaluator, “Vissman is a tough, hard nosed kid that is just a work horse. He runs and plays with power and fights for every yard. As a linebacker, Vissman reads the field well and is a run stuffer. He has a stalk build which is why he wasn’t recruited more, but he will do wonders for that Yale team.”
