Pitt Assistant Chris Beatty Continues to Hunt High-End Talent

Published

Chris Beatty has the reputation of a coach that’s an excellent recruiter with a history of landing highly rated recruits.

While he hasn’t landed anyone at Pitt yet, he’s started to plant the seeds and has begun pursing a handful of big-time players. Beatty has started his initial Pitt recruiting in Virginia, a place where he has had excellent success in the past.

Last night, Beatty offered a player that’s already ranked as one of the top 20 overall recruits in the country.

Sophomore 5-star defensive tackle Katron Evans (Norfolk, Virginia) received his latest offer from Beatty and Pitt. Evans (6’4″, 265) is rated by 247 Sports as the no. 2 ranked sophomore defensive lineman in the country and the 17th highest rated overall player.

Some of the heavyweight programs that have already offered Evans include Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Texas A&M and Virginia Tech.

Evans told me that’s very familiar with Beatty because he was previously recruiting him and offered him while with Maryland.

Here are the players that Beatty has offered in the last week:

  • CJ Beasley (5’9″, 165), running back from Norfolk, Virginia
  • Traeshon Holden (6’3″, 185), wide receiver from Baltimore, Maryland
  • Keontae Jenkins (5’10”, 165), 4-star cornerback from Virginia Beach, Virginia
  • Tony Grimes (6’1″, 180), #1 ranked sophomore cornerback in the country, Virginia Beach, Virginia
