Pitt’s impressive run of hosting talented recruits continued on Wednesday.

2020 3-star outside linebacker Ty Berrong from Port Orange, Florida traveled to Pittsburgh for an unofficial visit. This was his first time being in Pittsburgh.

Berrong (6’3”, 215) is a pass-rushing specialist that is getting recruited by linebacker coach Rob Harley. Along with Pitt, Berrong holds offers from Florida, Indiana, Missouri, North Carolina, South Florida and West Virginia.

At the conclusion of his visit last night, Pittsburgh Sports Now spoke to Berrong and his mother who made the visit with him.

“I honestly loved Pitt,” said Berrong. “It was a really unique city and I’ve never been around something like that and my interest grew a lot from visiting Pitt today. I was able to grow my relationships with the staff.”

“What impressed me the most was the life skills program they have. I haven’t seen anything like it at any other school. What really surprised me was how old the college was. I don’t know that it was that old and unique.”

Ty wasn’t the only person that left Pitt impressed by what they experienced.

Heather DeMuth, Tyler’s mother, made the plane flight to Pittsburgh with him and left impressed with more than just the football aspect of the university.

”The thing that most impressed me was the Life Skills program that Pitt has to offer,” said DeMuth. “We spoke in depth with John Pelusi and Lousaka Polite about the program. I think it is very important to not just earn a degree, but to have a program that is going to prepare athletes to succeed after college is fantastic!”

”I was also very impressed with the honesty from all the coaches. Coach Harley and Ty had a great conversation about the defense. You can just feel that there is a great culture there. The energy was great!”

Attending college at Pitt is a lot different when you’re from Western Pennsylvania than it is when you’re from Florida.

I asked DeMuth about her comfort level with possibly sending her son off so far away now that she made a visit here.

“Pittsburgh is definitely not right around the corner from home, but ultimately I want Ty to end up where he feels comfortable. It’s his choice. I’m just here to support him. After making the trip, we have realized its not too bad. He definitely could make a weekend trip home or we can come up easily, its only a two-hour flight.”

”Coach Harley asked me what my thoughts were and if I thought Ty was interested (committing). I told him I don’t think he’s sure yet and that I think he will just feel it when he knows it’s the right fit for him as we continue to visit schools. All in all, it was a great visit and we really enjoyed it!”

As far as Berrong’s feeling on where Pitt sits with him.

“They know where they sit with me. Let’s just say they’ll make the top 5!!
