Jeff Capel has been looking to land that blue-chip, program changing recruit since arriving at Pitt.

Could Earl Timberlake be that player?

Timberlake, a 2020 4-star small forward from DeMatha High School in Hyattsville, Maryland , is rated as one of the Top 20 rising seniors in the country and one of the Top 10 small forwards.

Sunday evening, Timberlake announced his Top 7 which included Capel and Pitt.

It’s not a surprise that Pitt made Timberlake’s initial cut considering the strong relationship he has with current Panthers Xavier Johnson and Trey McGowens. He’s also talked frequently about the interest the Pitt staff has shown in him from the start and that they talk multiple times a week.

Although an exact date hasn’t been set, Timberlake plans on making an official visit to Pitt. He made an unofficial visit last year during the weekend of the Pitt/Penn State football game.

Timberlake is one of Pitt’s top 2020 recruiting priorities along with R.J. Davis, John Hugley, Jalen Bridges, Donovan Johnson and D.J. Gordon.
