All 105 is a Pittsburgh Sports Now series profiling each of the 105 members of Pitt’s 2019 training camp roster.
8 • Calijah Kancey, freshman defensive lineman
Last year: Played for Florida powerhouse Miami Northwestern along with fellow Pitt freshman Leslie Smith. Picked the Panthers over offers from Georgia Tech, Kansas State, Louisville, Rutgers and South Carolina, amongst others.
Stats: Had 110 tackles as a senior.
Accolades, Highlights:
First-team ALl-Florida Class-64 and was rated as the No. 63 defensive tackle in the country and No. 113 player to come out of Florida.
Camp outlook: Defensive tackle is one of Pitt’s deeper positions, with four returning players with experience from 2018. Stout at the point of attack, Kancey could project to contribute as an interior lineman on special teams units if he can get a helmet on game days.
Projected role: Will have to earn his way to a four-game stint, and will probably maintain his redshirt status, but could have in impact in the games he plays.
