Pat Narduzzi had recent success recruiting at DeMatha Catholic as he landed a commitment from three-star wide receiver Jaden Bradley.
Jeff Capel is hoping to enjoy future success at that same school, as he offered an elite junior prospect.
Class of 2021 four-star shooting guard Jordan Hawkins (6-foot-5, 170 pounds) spoke on Thursday with Capel, who told him he’d earned an offer from Pitt. Hawkins also has offers from Louisville, Xavier, Georgetown, UConn and George Washington.
Hawkins is a four-star recruit on 247 Sports and Rivals, and is a Top 60 junior according to 247 Sports.
”I had a phone call today with Coach Capel and during the phone call he offered,” Hawkins told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “I’ve actually been hearing from Pitt since the start of last season. They had coaches at our opening tournament at DeMatha and first expressed their interest then.”
”Coach said that I’m a combo guard and their in need of one that can really shoot the ball. He told me that he believes that I have all the intangibles. This wasn’t the first time I’ve spoken to Coach Capel and I believe over the last year the staff and I have built a good relationship. I’ve also talked before with Coach Jason (Capel). They really seem like good people.”
Hawkins is familiar with Capel’s history and knows a little about the basketball program but something else stands out to him about Pitt.
”Definitely their academics,” said Hawkins. “I know they’re one of the top academic schools in the nation. Coach also told me that they’re one of the Top 25 Public Schools. The education you’d receive at Pitt really stands out to me.”
Along with Pitt, Hawkins told PSN that he’s hearing the most from Louisville, Memphis, UConn, Marquette, Georgetown and Xavier.
