Over the past week, the Pitt basketball staff has been out on the recruiting trail checking up on many different prospects, most of which have been guards.
Jaylen Curry
Curry is a 6-foot point guard from J.L. Chambers High School in North Carolina who visited Pitt this summer. Curry told Pittsburgh Sports Now that Pitt coaches checked him out on Sept. 20 for another look.
“Coach Jason [came to practice],” Curry told PSN. “He told me with my talent comes with responsibility and those responsibilities is motivating the team, valuing them, being a leader, things of that nature.”
Rahmir Barno
Barno is a 5-foot-11 guard from Philadelphia, who plays for Imhotep Institute nearby. Barno holds offers from Temple, La Salle, Drexel, Robert Morris, VCU, and Hofstra, and according to Andrew Slater has been receiving recent interest from the Panthers.
Pitt may have also been taking a look at one of Barno’s teammates, Justin Edwards, who is one of the best players in Pennsylvania in the 2023 class and holds a Pitt offer. Edwards is a 6-foot-7 small forward and he picked up the offer from Capel in June.
Ty-Laur Johnson
Johnson is a 6-foot point guard from St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark, New Jersey. Pitt has been showing interest in him since day one of the live period and has now checked in on him in person, once again according to Slater.
Jaydon Young
Jason Capel took a look at Jaydon Young the other day as well, his coach told Pittsburgh Sports Now. Young stands at a solid 6-foot-3, 185 pounds, and plays both the one and the two for Greensboro Day School.
Ranked as the No. 72 player in the class by 247 Sports’ Composite rankings, Young holds offers from Virginia Tech, Texas A&M, and more.
