Pitt Basketball’s High Priority Targets: 2023 Guard Jaydon Young

The next prospect that lands high on Pitt’s recruiting board in the 2023 class is Jaydon Young, a 6-foot-3 guard out of Greensboro Day School in North Carolina.

Although Young does not yet hold an offer from Pitt, he told Pittsburgh Sports Now that he speaks with the Pitt staff ‘very often’ and that he is hoping for one soon.

Young is ranked as the No. 151 prospect in the class by 247 Sports’ Composite Rankings. He holds offers from Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, and more, and is listed as a shooting guard.

Young visited Pitt for the Panthers’ football game against Clemson and loved his time in the Steel City.

“I loved it,” Young told PSN after the visit. “Just getting there, seeing the environment, seeing practice, how physical and how their energy is the whole time. Then the football game, that was the craziest part. The fans, the student section, stuff like that.”

Young has had a solid relationship with Jeff Capel ever since the first day that college coaches could directly reach out to prospects in his class (June 15). Since that October visit, he has stayed in contact with the staff as much as possible.

“Great, he’s very supportive and treats me like I’m one of his players,” Young told PSN in February. “He texts me every gameday and checks on me every week just for life in general. That’s my guy!”

If Crapel can’t land him over his tiny offer list, he’s gotta go…

With the Elite Basketball League gobbling up 4 and 5 star recruits, the picking are getting slim for the elite mbb programs. They are moving down the prospects list to 4’s and 3’s making it tougher for everyone else.
I think it’s the right time for the EBL because colleges and universities were just using ‘em, abusing ‘em and losing ‘em. It’s a job with no income (except for the occasional Zion Williamson).
