It wasn’t quite as impressive as back-to-back pick sixes against Virginia to open the game, but Pitt did intercept both Tyler Van Dyke and Jacurri Brown.
And forced a third turnover on the fifth offensive possession for Miami.
SirVocea Dennis got the party started by intercepting Van Dyke at the Pitt 11-yard line, with Tylar Wiltz in Van Dyke’s face, and Dennis returned the interception 67 yards to set up Pitt’s first touchdown.
Javon McIntyre recorded his first career interception on the second Miami possession, picking off a poorly thrown ball from Brown with an athletic play on the football.
And Dennis got back into the action by stripping the ball from Miami’s Will Mallory, and Erick Hallett scooped it up — setting up another Abanikanda touchdown.
Pitt led Miami 28-0 at the halftime break, helped by 14 points off turnovers forced by the Pitt defense.
Early in the third quarter, Pitt’s defense has racked up five tackles for loss, two sacks, three turnovers and allowed just 166 total yards.
