Pitt’s interest in a top player in the transfer market is getting serious.
Per Adam Zagoria, Syracuse transfer guard Joe Girard is hosting Pitt head coach Jeff Capel today for an in-home visit.
Zagoria says that Girard just completed in-home visits with Butler, Stanford, LSU and will be meeting soon with Washington.
Not surprisingly, there’s been a ton of interest in Girard since he announced his decision to transfer from Syracuse. Aside from the above-mentioned schools, Indiana, Tennessee, Auburn, Florida, Ohio State, Clemson, Nebraska, BYU and Loyola Chicago are just some of the schools to reach out to Girard.
Girard will test the NBA waters before ultimately deciding on going pro or returning to college basketball for his fifth year of eligibility. He started all but two of his 125 games in a Syracuse uniform, averaging 13.2 points and 3.6 assists in four seasons while shooting over 37% from the floor, 36% behind the three-point arc, and 86% at the free-throw line for head coach Jim Boeheim. He totaled a career-high 16.4 points per game this season and faced the Panthers twice. In Syracuse on Dec. 20, Girard scored 16 points and added five assists in a two-point loss and scored 19 in Pittsburgh on Feb. 25. Girard made three triples in each game.
Adding 3-point shooters to their roster for next season is a top priority for Pitt, and Girard is no doubt at or near the top on the Panthers wish list.
