PITTSBURGH – The Panthers remain active in recruiting transfers to Pittsburgh after winning two games in the 2023 NCAA Tournament. On Wednesday, another major conference transfer heard from Pitt.
Pitt has expressed interest in Illinois point guard Jayden Epps, according to recruiting expert Andrew Slater. The freshman guard entered the portal Tuesday and quickly heard from schools including Virginia, NC State, Georgetown, Texas A&M, and others.
The Norfolk, Virginia, native played high school basketball at Combine Academy in North Carolina, ranking as the No. 83 overall recruit by ESPN and No. 90 by Rivals. He averaged 9.5 points and 1.5 assists in 31 games, making 11 starts. Epps, 6-foot-2, scored a career-high 21 points against Monmouth in the third game of the season, playing 24 minutes off the bench and shooting 8-of-12 from the field.
He averaged over 24 minutes per game but only played a combined eight in the program’s Big Ten Tournament loss to Penn State (two minutes) and NCAA Tournament defeat against Arkansas (six minutes) after playing 23 against Ohio State. He was injured in practice and admitted to the hospital at the end of February with a concussion.
Epps marks the 13th transfer Pitt has reached out to. The Panthers have three scholarships available and are losing five departing seniors plus forward John Hugley to the transfer portal. Stay up to date all recruiting season to PSN’s transfer tracker.
