In late July, a team full of former Pitt basketball standouts — also known as ‘Zoo Crew” — will take the floor in Wheeling, West Virginia in The Basketball Tournament.

On Wednesday, TBT announced that Zoo Crew will be the No. 5 seed (out of eight teams) in the Wheeling regional. Zoo Crew will open competition with a Round of 64 game against No. 4 Herd That (Marshall alumni), with the winner advancing to play the winner of No. 1 seed Best Virginia against No. 8 seed Dubois Dream.

Best Virginia, a team full of former Mountaineer stars, is the No. 1 seed in the regional. Sideline Cancer is the No. 2, Challenge ALS: Florida is the No. 3, Herd That is the No. 4, Dawg Town is the No. 6 seed, Ram Nation (VCU alumni) is No. 7, and Dubois Dream is No. 8.

TBT kicks off on July 19. However, the Wheeling regional is part of TBT’s Week Two slate, lasting from July 25-30.

Zoo Crew’s roster includes several Pitt players from this past season — Nike Sibande, Nelly Cummings, and Greg Elliott — as well as other Panther standouts Gary McGhee, Michael Young, Jamel Artis, Mo Gueye, and Ryan Luther.
