Reaction to Pat Narduzzi Saying Pitt Didn’t Replace Players Well Enough

Published

on

Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi claps after the Panthers score against Virginia Tech on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023 in Blacksburg, Virginia. (Mitchell Northam / Pittsburgh Sports Now.)

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Pitt has a 24-hour rule when it comes to licking its wounds and moving on following a loss, but a 58-7 loss to Notre Dame Saturday might just have a lasting impact.

Pat Narduzzi said that after the loss that the loss started with him, that it was what he said about his players, making a comparison between this season’s team and last season’s that has caught his players’ attention.

“When you lose like you did today and you have a tough one last week, why is it? I’ll go back,” Pat Narduzzi said following the loss. “You lose a lot of good players a year ago, you think as a coach you’re going to replace them, but we obviously haven’t. And again, it starts with me. I didn’t do a good enough job coaching today, put it on me, and we’ve gotta make plays. It just comes down to making plays and doing a better job coaching.”

Of course, Pitt didn’t play as well as it would’ve liked to against Notre Dame, and there’s blame to go around, but it’s tough to hear from a head coach that he didn’t replace his players well enough.

Pitt will have to rebound quickly, and make sure that the entire team is on the same page, as No. 4 Florida State comes to town next Saturday.

The loss to Notre Dame dropped Pitt to 2-6 (1-4 ACC) and with four games to go, it doesn’t appear as though a sweeping comeback is in the cards.

DUZZ 100% truth telling. Wasn’t about coaching or execution. They flat out got man handled. Humbling loss. Have to recruit and develop much better.

Even if true, that was a really stupid comment to make…players can’t be happy about that. One of the constants during Narduzzi’s tenure was that his team never quit on him, no matter the situation. That may be about to change next week.

Great comment by Wendell Davis
“ You have great players you just didn’t do a good job replacing Whipple…”

Wendell is the smartest guy in the room. By hiring and keeping Cignetti, Narduzzi betrayed players, staff, fans, and pitt nation.

Wendell Davis left for Northwestern awhile back, I question your Pitt roster knowledge.

Hyperbole. He was speaking about “person in the room” as a phrase. Not factually speaking.

Tough to replace good players when you have an OC that no talented players want to play in his offense. Skill guys and the Line play is deficient. The defense is young. There is some talent there. The DLine is not dominant like it used to be. I think with a few upgrades through the portal they can recover quickly on the defensive side of the ball.

I don’t think any legit OC would want to coach for Narduzzi considering how he views the game. Let’s hope the boosters will financially back the decision to part ways with him.

They are going to need Mark Cuban money to make that contract go away.

Defense was good enough. If your QB completes more passes to ND than Pitt what can you do? Cignetti and Canada are magnificently stupid play callers and should not be employed ever again for a serious football team. It’s not the kids fault when you get creamed by 51. It’s the adults. Don’t give up on the run in the first half even my mom knows this.

Canada was actually the 2nd best OC of the Narduzzi era. Think about that statement for a little while.

Addison left due to Cignetti.
Slovis left due to Cignetti.
Minchey flipped due to Cignetti.
Our best QB Yarnell isn’t starting because Cignetti did not recruit him.

Shame on Narduzzi for turning the fate of this team over to Cignetti.

The entire Pitt nation, the players, the sports world is laughing at Narduzzi for blaming everyone and everything except the obvious. Cignetti is a toxic conn man.

So in Retro Bowl terminology Coach blamed player(s) instead of taking it on himself. Which as we know in Retro Bowl makes morale go down.

Only way to prevent it from being a blood bath is to start parting ways with coaches the day the season ends.

Play valling when they were still in it sucked. Example: Twice passes right on sideline for 3 yards when 3rd and seven

2-6 with Florida St and 3 other meaningless games coming up…At least his players weren’t jumping up and down on the sidelines when they were down 51-0 and finally scored a touchdown. The team quit today.

Can’t wait for Duzz to say how bad he wants to play Penn State in 3, 2, 1…

Fire Narduzzi and bring in an offensive minded coach with a non-senior QB who’d be willing to transfer with him. I can’t watch this style of football anymore and gives me anxiety… lol

So talent explains all the pre snap penalties, terrible special teams decisions and execution, piss poor play calling, not throwing to TEs, etc.

That was a ridiculous statement? To be transparent they do not play there best players. I can go on and on both sides of the ball of the players that should be getting more snaps. The political games and hidden agendas have completely dismantled this program.
